DutiesDuring the course of their careers, UniformedDivision Officers carry out assignments in protection.
Dutiesinclude:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The VicePresident’s Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, andforeign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C.area. Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential,and foreign heads of state/government missions. Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as describedunder Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.Our UniformedDivision’s mission is to protect facilities and venues secured forU.S. Secret Service protectees. Throughout its history, theUniformed Division has accomplished this mission throughindividuals who embody honor, integrity and a commitment toexcellence.
Today, the Uniformed Division has grown both in size andscope of responsibility and is mandated by law to provide physicalsecurity for the White House Complex and the vice president sresidence at the Naval Observatory. It also provides security forthe Treasury Department building and foreign diplomatic missions inWashington, D.C. The Uniformed Division also has specialized teamsincluding Counter Sniper, Emergency Response, K-9, and more.
Requirements U.S. citizenship is required. Possess a current valid U.S. driver’s license. Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receivea conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous servicein a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by speciallaw enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, includingearly or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran’s preferencemust receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reachingage 40 to continue in the application process. Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency isalso mandatory. Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better ineach eye. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500,1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear thewhispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of ahearing aid. Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drugtesting while you occupy the position. Complete 12 weeks of intensive training at the Federal LawEnforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA or Artesia, NMand 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. RowleyTraining Center in Laurel, MD. Certify that you have registered with the Selective ServiceSystem or are exempt from having to do so, if you are a maleapplicant born after December 31, 1959.
