Job Description
The City of Roanoke is seeking applicants for the position of Police Officers. Applicants must be at least 19 years of age, must possess a valid Alabama drivers license, have a high school diploma or GED, have basic computer skills, and possess the ability to communicate effectively with the public. Applicants must also have the ability to pass a basic physical skills examination as well as meet all criteria set forth by the State of Alabama to be certified as a Law Enforcement Officer.

TITLE:
Patrol Officer
DEFNITION
Protects the life property, general safety and welfare of the public by enforcing State, Federal, and City Laws and Ordinances.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Patrol city streets to deter crime, investigate suspicious activities, make arrests, prepare cases for court, investigate accidents, identify, and correct public safety hazards, control traffic flow, prepare accurate reports, provide assistance to the public, book and monitor property and inmates, and provide assistance to other divisions. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The Patrol Officer must obtain a through working knowledge of State and Federal Laws and Municipal Ordinances, must be able to understand written and verbal operating procedures and instruction, ability to develop and maintain professional working relationship with the public as well as other employees, ability to remain calm, and make sound decisions and respond appropriately during stressful situations and under adverse conditions, ability to safely operate a patrol vehicle and all related equipment, good communication skills, and proficiency with weapons, as well as other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Patrol Officer must be a United States citizen, must have a valid Alabama Drivers License, must have the necessary credentials to become and maintain Alabama certification as a Law Enforcement Officer. Must be willing to work at unscheduled times in emergencies. Must be 19 years of age. This is an 86 hour pay period position.
SALARY:
Uncertified $14.00 per hour
Certified Officer $18.00 to $20.00 per hour
