Job Description

Summary The ERT Security Police Officer is a member of a cohesive team specially trained in special tactics, planning, and the use of specialized equipment, firearms, and other weapons. ERT Officers provide an immediate on-site response to resolve a variety of critical security (Incidents) effectively and safely and/or law enforcement incidents including active shooter, hostage rescue, barricaded subject, terrorist aggression, and workplace violence. The ERT Officer, after completion of required NASA Federal Arrest Authority and if required , Federal Magistrate Program Training, will act in the capacity of a law enforcement officer and have arrest and apprehension authority on the NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC) installation. The ERT SPO is armed with a side arm, shotgun (M4), or other weapons as required . Responsibilities Conduct all duties outlined by the ERT Commander/Supervisor, Team Lead, Watch Commander or Area Supervisor. Participate in physically demanding endurance and strength training, and team training scenarios and exercises on a weekly basis. Continuously maintain weapons qualifications at 90% or better with all assigned and team issued weapons systems. Maintain physical standards to meet contract requirements. Maintain all related technical certifications required by ERT and NASA. Be prepared to work varied hours and days off to meet the operational requirements of the ERT. Be subject to 24/7 recall for emergency response. As a critical position will be required to report and remain available for emergency duty in expectation of a hurricane, other disaster, or declared emergency Required to follow all company personnel and safety policies and perform all assigned duties in a safe work manner. Will arrive at work in proper uniform and carrying needed, issued equipment. Will be responsible for cleanliness of uniform and equipment assigned. Will be required to exercise force up to and including deadly force. Will participate in Guard Mount, receive assigned post, and copy any extra instructions. Will carry out general and special orders for post assigned. Will communicate via radio, telephone and orally according to orders. Required to interact and escort as required with public and government personnel. Will provide access control, traffic control and conduct walking and motorized armed security functions. Will follow applicable standard operating procedures and NASA regulations pertaining to security of weapons, buildings, personnel, NASA property and equipment. Will conduct personnel, vehicular, building, & facility checks and package & parcel inspections. Must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays if needed. Preferred 1 year military or law enforcement experience Must be able to complete a NTOA Basic tactical course or another recognized tactical course within 180 days of appointment, Must be able to attend and successfully complete a four-week NASA Training Academy prior to standing an armed post Must be able to successfully complete the

within 120 days of appointment Honorably discharged (If Applicable) Must be able to possess and maintain a valid Florida state driver’s license. Must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance, but not required to start. Must be able to meet drug testing and alcohol – free workforce requirements to include random drug and/or alcohol testing. Must speak, read, write, and understand the English language, apply written rules, detailed orders, instructions and training material. Have no criminal record or history of illegal drug use, sale, possession, or manufacture. Have no felony convictions and no convictions that reflect on the individual’s reliability including those crimes classified under the Lautenburg Act. Must be able to maintain and qualify periodically on a course of fire with handgun, or other special weapons. Must be able to meet and maintain NASA Physical Certifications and complete a Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory -2 (MMPI-2) and Shipley Institute of Living Scale psychological examinations. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire. Must successfully complete the Initial Physical Agility Test (IPAT) which consist of the following: ERT candidates must complete the ERT Physical Fitness Qualification Test consisting of pullups, timed 800 and 400 meter runs, burpees, and air squats, and annually thereafter will be required to successfully pass the ERT Physical Fitness Assessment and pass the ERT task specific Physical Assessment Test (PAT). Candidates must also successfully pass an ERT weapons firearms qualification with a score of 90% utilizing a handgun, AR-15 Style Rifle and submachine gun.
