This is a highly responsible position involving the custody, control and care of inmates within a jail facility, and the movement of inmates outside the facility.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO
Abide by the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics. Be responsible for the reception, custody, control, and release of inmates.
Maintain a courteous and professional attitude toward the public, other agencies, and inmates.
Search all visitors and inmates entering the detention facility for contraband as required.
Escort and guard inmates to and from hearings, trials, meetings, medical facilities, other institutions, etc., as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Primarily an indoor environment with minimal outside activity in an adult facility. Requires shift work, which may be rotated.
Required to work holidays and weekends as scheduled and required to work overtime when necessary.
Hazards include all potential dangers of working around and confined inmate population.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Intermittent performance of extremely physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, running, and climbing.
May involve lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
Must be able to exert up to 150 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift of extremely heavy objects (150+pounds), such as in the event of chasing and subduing a perpetrator resisting control.
Tasks may also involve standing, sitting, or walking for long periods of time.
