Description Selected non-certified applicants are appointed as Police Officer Trainees on a probationary basis. During academy, salary is $1,184.08/week or $61,572.11/year. Upon satisfactory completion of academy and receipt of State of Florida Law Enforcement Officer certification, trainees are promoted to Certified Police Officer, on probationary status with the following salary of $1,293.20/week or $67,246.40/year. Following completion of academy and receipt of State of Florida Law Enforcement Officer certification, candidates appointed to Police Officer perform general police duties consisting of patrolling an assigned area, responding to requests for police service, conducting preliminary investigations and performing other related duties in accordance with established criteria. A Police Officer is required to exercise initiative and discretion in the performance of his/her duties and will be faced with emergency situations. This work involves an element of personal danger. Essential Job Functions Enforces the laws and ordinances of the City and all other pertinent laws;
Patrols an assigned area during a specific period on foot or in motorized police equipment;
Checks doors and windows and examines premises of unoccupied buildings or residences in order to detect any suspicious conditions;
Investigates suspicious conditions and complaints and makes arrests of persons who violate laws and ordinances;
Accompanies prisoners to headquarters, jail or court and appears in court as arresting officer;
Testifies in court as required;
Directs traffic and either arrests or issues citations to those who break traffic laws;
Checks automobile parking in restricted areas and issues citations when necessary;
Responds to fires or accidents in assigned area as directed, gives all possible assistance, and prepares necessary reports;
Maintains order in crowds and attends parades, funerals and other public gatherings;
Searches for stolen cars and wanted or missing persons;
Conducts investigations and enforces City and State laws pertaining to juvenile offenders;
Answers criminal complaints and takes necessary corrective action;
Gives advice on laws, ordinances and general information to the public;
Prepares comprehensive reports of activities for review of superior officers;
Performs first aid and rescue duties. Minimum Requirements The following items must be submitted at the time: 1.

Minimum age:

21 2. Must be a U.S. citizen 3. Must have high school diploma or equivalent 4. Must have a valid driver’s license and meet the North Miami Police Department’s driving standards, and the ability to receive a State of Florida driver’s license, Class E or higher, by the date of appointment. (Out of State applicants will be required to provide a copy of their driving record from the current State of issuance.) 5. Must be of good moral character 6. Never have received a dishonorable discharge from any branch of the U.S. armed service 7. Must have 20/30 vision or better (corrected or uncorrected). 8. Must qualify on all of the following tests at Broward College, Davie Campus, School of Criminal Justice; Miami Dade College, Criminal Justice Institute, or at any FDLE approved location offering these tests:

• Basic Abilities Test (BAT
• Passing score determined by testing facility: Miami Dade College FBAT = 71% or better; Broward College CJBAT for LE = 79% or better.

Must be completed within the last 4 years. Exemptions to

BAT Test:

 Veterans with Honorable Discharge, Associate’s Degree or higher. Applicants are responsible for contacting Broward or Miami Dade College for BAT Testing.

• Motor Skills/Physical Agility Test-Must have been completed within the last 6 months.

The Selection Process:

Prior to employment, all applicants placed on the Eligible List will be required to qualify on the following: Personnel History Questionnaire (PHQ); Video Assessment (B-PAD); Truth Verification Examination (CVSA); Psychological Evaluation; Complete Background Investigation; Comprehensive Medical Examination, including drug screen; Interview with the Police Chief Failure to qualify on any of the above listed tests/selection phases will result in disqualification for this position.
