The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in animal handling and care, demonstrating leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations. This position requires a commitment to public safety and the well-being of both the K-9 units and the community. Duties Conduct criminal investigations using K-9 units for detection of narcotics, explosives, or other contraband. Provide animal care and handling for K-9 partners, ensuring their health and well-being. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies Prepare detailed reports on findings from investigations and K-9 deployments. Engage in loss prevention strategies through proactive patrols and community outreach. Maintain proficiency in first aid to ensure immediate response capabilities for both humans and animals. Lead training sessions for new officers on K-9 handling techniques and operational procedures. Qualifications Certification as a K-9 officer Proven experience in criminal investigation techniques and report writing. Strong skills in animal care and handling, with an emphasis on K-9 welfare. Knowledge of loss prevention tactics and immigration law is preferred. Demonstrated leadership abilities with a focus on teamwork and collaboration. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Ability to perform first aid as needed during operations involving K-9 units. K9 handler need to be physically fit, able to handle and control, powerful, dogs in high pressure situation, and posses excellent communication and teamwork skills. Must own your home or have written consent from home owner for the canine to be there.
