JOB OVERVIEW
Under the supervision of the Sergeant, the Port Police Officer works assigned access control points and patrols terminals in a uniformed capacity to protect life and property. Responsible for providing both public safety and security services for GPA interests and to the broader Ports Authority community. Investigates incidences of criminal acts and other related breaches of facility security. Upholds the values of the GPA to promote Safety, Integrity, Respect, Community, Creativity and Opportunity. Promotes a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors.
JOB DUTIES
Works at controlled access areas and documents related activity. Inspects out-going traffic to prevent unauthorized removal of cargo on property. Patrols and safeguards GPA restricted marine terminals and other GPA properties Reports observed hazards, or other conditions compromising the safety and security of the marine terminals or other GPA interests. Monitors docking and sailing vessels at GPA’s marine terminals. Contacts violators for observed or known criminal offenses and violations of federal regulations pertaining to MTSA restricted marine terminals; detains, arrests, or expels violators from the property. Performs Radio-Switchboard Operator duties as required. Investigates incidents, accidents, motor vehicle collisions or property damages and writes detailed reports that are complete, accurate and concise. Performs traffic control, parking enforcement, and traffic enforcement. Responds to all unusual activities or events that require a police officer presence, i.e. criminal offenses, security related incidents, active shooter incidents, labor disputes, environmental incidents civil unrest, manmade or natural disasters, and other emergencies. Gathers information for use in the investigation of criminal activities and disorder in GPA jurisdictions, prepares appropriate warrants affidavits, appears for court hearings as necessary, and provides supporting testimony. Responsible for cleanliness at workstations. Patrols buildings and grounds, docks, and warehouses. Performs first aid and CPR as required. Provides vessel crew member transport through the facility as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to use computers and various electronic data equipment.
Must be able to type.
Must be able to lift, climb and work at various heights.
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Must be able to document and identify cargo containers, tractor-trailer combinations and other identification information accurately and completely.
Must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions to include extreme temperature changes, moisture, and humidity.
Must be willing to work around loud noises, motor vehicle exhaust and industrial odors.
Must be able to work shifts including nights, holidays, and weekends.
Ability to deal effectively and professionally with others.
