Supplemental Information This vacancy is located in the Capitol Detail Section in the Department of Public Safety and Corrections/Office of State Police located in Caddo Parish. This posting may be used to fill a probational appointment, job appointment, or promotional opportunity. There is one position posted. This position is located at the Shreveport State Office Building located at 1525 Fairfield Avenue Shreveport, LA. Applicants must live within 75 miles of their assigned location. Applicants who do not meet the residency requirements will be rejected.
Typical job duties include:
State Facilities Security—Officers assigned to these duties provide police protection to the state employees and visitors at their assigned location. These officers enforce state and local laws and ordinances, conduct frequent security patrols, investigate crimes, and prevent and deter unlawful activity. Applicants must be able to qualify with firearms, complete advanced driver and weapons training, pass a thorough background investigation, and meet all annual training requirements. Starting pay is determined by your level of experience according to the following schedule: DPS Cadet (0-3 years of law enforcement experience. No minimum experience is required)—$42,016 per year DPS Officer (3 years as a POST-certified police officer with the power of arrest)—$46,425 per year DPS Senior Officer (4 years as a POST-certified police officer with the power of arrest)—$53,144 per year Experienced officers who are POST Certified may be hired at up to $31.17 an hour ($64,834 per year). Only well-qualified applicants with additional certifications and more than 10 years of service will qualify for this starting pay rate. In addition to specialized training, equipment, and deployment for special events throughout Louisiana, officers have excellent retirement benefits. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
No experience or training is required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. Possession of a current driver’s license. Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification. An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
