About the Position
This position is with the CAPITOL POLICE, JACKSON, MS, in
HINDS COUNTY.
This is a advanced-level law enforcement position. This unit of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety is charged with the responsibility of protecting life and property within the boundaries of the Capitol Complex Improvement District located in Jackson. Work is performed under the direct supervision of law enforcement staff/personnel of higher classifications. In addition, work involves assisting in the interview process of suspects and witnesses, and assisting other law enforcement agencies and/or municipalities when necessary. Some duties include, but are not limited to:
- Interact with members of the community.
- Responding to routine disputes, traffic calls, and vehicle accidents
- Patrolling the area of the city.
- Responding to calls for service.
- Solving crimes that occur in the area.
- Interviewing suspects and witnesses.
- Testifying in court cases.
- Make an arrest for an offense committed in their presence.
- Protecting life, property, and enforcing relevant laws in their assigned jurisdiction.
- Prepare reports/provide emergency medical treatment as needed.
Capitol Police Pay Scale 1. Law Enforcement Officer I NO prior Law Enforcement Experience is needed to apply for this position. However, a State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Professional Certification must be obtained in this position. 0 to 1 year $46,700 2. Law Enforcement Officer II This position requires possession of a State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Professional Certification and at least the specified number of years of law enforcement experience below. 1 to 4 years $50,000 4 to 8 years $53,000 3. Law Enforcement Officer III This position requires possession of a State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Professional Certification and at least the specified number of years of law enforcement experience below. 8 to 12 years $56,000 12 to 16 years $58,750 16 to 20 years $61,750 20 to 24 years $64,750 25 to 30 years $68,000

Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires possession of a State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Professional Certification, and 2-4 years of experience in law enforcement.
Hiring agency preferred qualifications:
