Videos Duties This position serves as a vital part of the VA Police Services often serving as the face of the VA and as the first person a Veteran or or encounters when entering a VA facility. Provides security and assistance to Veterans, pients, employees, contractors, volunteers, affilies, ors, and others who frequent VA facilities daily. Major Duties Include, but not limited to: Protects the civil rights of all individuals on VA controlled property; Prevents, detect and investige crimes; Prols assigned areas on foot or by motor vehicle; Subdues persons causing disturbance or who threen harm to themselves or others; Follows rules/procedures concerning search and seizure of evidence and contraband; Takes charge of significant and castrophic events; Conducts investigions, apprehensions, and detention; Obtains search and arrest warrants; Arrests violors; Uses independent judgment in cases where policy is not clear; Provides basic first aid and CPR prior to arrival of emergency medical personnel; Prepares report of activities and events th occurred during shift ; Performs traffic control; Assists citizens in emergency situions; and, Performs other reled duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:
The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center is a 24/7 operion and has openings for various shifts. The position may require assignment to any of the following shifts based on operional needs. (Shifts will vary and be discussed during the interview process) Various work schedules may include: Sunday through Surday, 6:00am-4:00pm, 7:00am-5:00pm, 8:00 am
- 4:00pm. 10:00am
- 6:00pm, 9:00pm-7:00am, 10:00pm
- 6:00am, and 12:00pm-10:00am.

Specialized Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupion in the organizion. Specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to, providing knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulions, law enforcement operions, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Specialized experience includes maintaining order to protect life and property; taking initial complaints; interviewing witnesses; securing a crime scene and conducting limited searches; responding to emergency situions; ghering informion and preparing reports; conducting routine prol, traffic control, and traffic accident investigions. Experience as a security guard or corrections officer is generally not qualifying.

VA Police Officers are required to carry agency-approved firearms while on duty on VA property. POLICE OFFICER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
New VA Police Officers are required to tend an 8-10 week course the VA Law Enforcement Training Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Sisfactory completion of this course is a condition of continued employment. A medical examinion is required.
