Job Description:
SUNY Delhi seeks a University Police Officer I to join the New York State University Police Department at Delhi (UPD). SUNY Delhi prides itself on being a welcoming college community for all. The University Police Officer 1 at SUNY Delhi will enforce all New York State and local laws, as well as the Student Code of Conduct. University Police Officers are charged with full police officer powers under Criminal Procedure Law, Section 1.20(34)(s), and are responsible for the performance of the full range of professional police duties. University Police Officers assist other Local, State and Federal police officers with investigations and may collect evidence, question witnesses, or testify in court, in connection with alleged criminal actions. University Police Officers are actively involved in campus communities and activities including educating community members on such topics as personal safety, risk awareness, crime prevention, alcohol awareness, sexual assault prevention, and other community safety issues. Typical activities include crime prevention, crowd control, foot and mobile patrols, traffic safety and control, and radio dispatching.
Requirements:
The successful candidate must be reachable for appointment on the current, permanent Civil Service eligible list for University Police Officer I, have previously held the permanent title of University Police Officer I or be eligible for transfer to this title.
Prior to appointment candidates must:
Meet established physical and medical requirements
Satisfy all SUNY University Police requirements
Possess and maintain a valid unrestricted New York State motor vehicle operators license
Must be legally eligible to carry a firearm and maintain all requirements for certification as a police officer in
New York State Promotion Requirements:
One year of service as a Campus Public Safety Officer and completion of 60 semester credit hours of college study.
