Patrol Officer – Probationary Borough of Sayre 234 South Lehigh Avenue, Sayre, PA 18840 The Sayre Borough Civil Service Commission is seeking applicants to establish an eligibility list for the position of Patrol Officer-Probationary (full-time) for two (2) openings that will be filled prior to September 1, 2025 in the Sayre Borough Police Department. Sayre, Pennsylvania is the largest municipality in Bradford County, Pennsylvania and is located within two hours of Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and Williamsport, Pennsylvania and Rochester and Syracuse, New York. Sayre Borough is home to Robert Packer Hospital and Guthrie Clinic the region’s largest employer with over 3,500 employees on the Sayre campus and more than 800,000 visitors to the medical campus each year. The Sayre Borough Police Department includes a Police Chief, Assistant Police Chief, School Resource Officer, and (ten) full-time patrol officers who serve the residents of Sayre Borough (pop. 5,500) and South Waverly Borough (pop. 1,000). The Department responds to over 4,000 calls for service each year and provides mutual aid assistance to neighboring municipalities in Pennsylvania and New York. The Department is also the lead agency for the Bradford County SWAT team. Completed applications must be received by the Borough no later than 4:00pm on June 30, 2025. Every applicant shall possess a diploma from an accredited high school or a graduate equivalency diploma. In addition, every applicant must be a United States citizen and meet all Civil Service requirements. To be eligible to apply for this position, applicants must be Pennsylvania Act 120 certified, actively in a Pennsylvania Municipal Police Academy pursuing Act 120 certification at the time of application, or have completed the Act 120 certification process at time of hire. Any conditional offer of employment to a candidate currently attending an in-progress Pennsylvania Act 120 approved Police Academy would also be contingent on the candidate successfully graduating and providing proof of Act 120 certification from the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission. All new patrol officers begin as Patrol Officer Probationary with an hourly rate of $24.99 for the remainder of 2025 with annual increases. Patrol Officers hired during this process will receive an increase in their hourly rate on January 1st of each calendar year and on their respective anniversary date of hire until they have reached the classification of Patrol Officer VI with an anticipated hourly rate of $42.65.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES FOR POLICE OFFICER 1.

Run for several hundred yards. 2. Climb over obstacles. 3. Crawl. 4. Push motor vehicles. 5. Pull or carry accident, fire, or crime victims. 6. Use physical force to apprehend and subdue arrestees. 7. Withstand prolonged exposure to extreme weather conditions. 8. Withstand prolonged periods of standing or sitting. 9. Withstand frequent exposure to stress-producing situations such as encountering persons injured or killed by accidents, criminal acts, or suicide. 10. Deal with domestic disputes. 11. Deal with verbal and physical abuse of an officer, including taunts, insults, and threats to the officer, family members, or fellow police officers. 12. Communicate effectively with individuals suffering from trauma. 13. Operate a motor vehicle for long periods. 14. Use a firearm effectively. 15. Complete written reports in a clear, concise manner. 16.
