School Police Officer Title:
School Police Officer (Contracted Position) Reports to: Superintendent or designee
Job Goal:
The School Police Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of students and staff while on district property.
Qualifications:
The School Police Officer
- Possess a high school diploma
- Minimum two (2) years of police or security experience, and
- Successful completion of the Basic School Resource Office Course by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) shall be required before beginning duties
- Act 120 and Act 235 Certification or graduate of the PA State Police Academy, employment as a state trooper, and separated from service in good standing
- Current Act 34, Act 151, and FBI clearances as required by the laws of Pennsylvania; any other clearances that may be required by law
- Training as required under 5.3 PA. C.S. Ch 21 Subch. D (relating to municipal police officer education and training)
- Weapons Qualification

- Check all outside doors regularly. Outside doors must be locked at all times. This is an expected detail to check during each walkthrough.
- Support the Director of Safety and Security by collaborating with local police, state police, and the sheriff’s office when necessary;
- Review of all District safety and security policies and procedures for a common and enforceable language and purpose, and conduct security training of all district personnel as needed;
- Attend court hearing as necessary
- Use emergency communication equipment and hardware, including radios, walkie-talkies, cell phones, district-wide phone system, PA system, video surveillance system, access control system, and silent panic alarms.
- Understanding of school law, special education law, and criminal law
- Maintain high visibility in schools and areas designated by the administration to ensure the safety of district personnel, students, and property.
- Enforce school board policy, district procedures, and the PA Crime Code to ensure the safety of district personnel, students, and property. Emergency and Preparedness Responsibilities
- Participate in related district committees, including the District Security Team, the Certified Safety Committee, crisis teams, the threat assessment team, and other relevant committees
- Assist the Director of Safety and Security when addressing bomb threats and other emergencies as necessary, and provide recommendations for threat reduction
- Assist in maintaining systems concerning surveillance, keyless entry, and alarm systems as needed in each building.
- Assist with random metal detection screenings District Presence / Support of Student and Staff
- Counsels students and parents concerning unlawful behavior and consequences
- Assist principals/ assistant principals with disorderly discipline problems (students or adults);
- Assist District staff with problem situations as requested
- Patrol halls maintain a visible presence, circulating between every period;
- Patrol the school campus, student parking lots, and surrounding areas before and after school; and
- Patrol and maintain a physical presence for after-school events as determined by the Director of School Safety.

- Engage in professional learning as necessary to effectively perform all responsibilities of the position; and
- Perform other duties as directed by the Superintendent or Designee.
