The Campus Police Officer performs the duties of a state law enforcement officer for the University of South Carolina Upstate in accordance with South Carolina Code of Laws 23-6-430 by enforcing state criminal and traffic laws and policies, rules and regulations of the University. Protects persons and property while enforcing said rules, regulations and policies of the University of South Carolina Upstate campus. Provides highly visible patrols within the University’s sp of influence.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience High school diploma or GED; prefer Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Must be 21 years of age, be physically qualified and have no criminal record.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Must pass a background investigation andplete the SC Criminal Justice Academy and be certified by the SC Law Enforcement Training Council before assuming police duties. Possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or GED; prefer Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Must be 21 years of age, be physically qualified and have no criminal record. Certification from SC Criminal Justice Academy in accordance with SC Code of Laws 23-6-430 and a Criminal Justice Degree is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Ability to handle stressful situations including mentally unstable persons and angry, violent or distressed persons while maintainingposure and professionalism. Ability to work night shifts, maintain confidentiality of investigations, possess effectivemunication skills and work effectively with a diversemunity.
Job Duties
Job Duty Patrol the University Campus to protect and secure person(s) or property while deterring crime and detecting violations of the law, to include but not limited to traffic control duties, investigating criminal violations and securing crime scenes for investigators; promoting and actively participating inmunity policing and securing all buildings on campus.

Sign-On Bonus:

$7,500 sign-on bonus new hire, who was as an applicant was currently working either as a Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer certified by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy or has been inactive with a law enforcement agency for less than 12 months and is able to have Class 1 certification immediately reinstated upon hire.

Executed as follows:

$1,750 after successfulpletion field training;
$750 after successfulpletion of 1st anniversary;
$2,500 after successfulpletion of 2nd anniversary; and
$2,500 after successfulpletion of 3rd anniversary.
