The Johnson City Police Department is home to approximately 180 sworn officers and civilian employees who are dedicated to protecting the community. As a Police Officer Trainee, you will be paid full salary while receiving comprehensive training through an Accredited Police Academy. Upon completion of the recruit training, you will be responsible for protective services work as well as the prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes. This work may involve personal risk and requires sound, independent judgment in all situations. All uniforms and equipment are provided by the department. In addition, you will be issued a take home patrol car. The city provides numerous employee benefits as well as a 401a retirement plan. Minimum Requirements at the time of application: U.S. Citizen Must possess a valid driver’s license Be a high school graduate or have GED equivalent Be at least 21 years of age Meet standards set forth by the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission and adopted by the Tennessee General Assembly on June 4, 1983, T.C.A. 38-8-106 Not have been convicted of, or pleaded guilty to, or entered a plea of nolo contendre to a felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws, or any city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor, or controlled substances, and not under any other than an honorable discharge from any of the armed forces of the United States Training (all training provided by the agency): Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy 9 / 12 Weeks Field Training 16 Weeks Probationary Period 1 Year Applicants already certified will be eligible for the following incentives if hired: Tennessee POST Certification $2,100 incentive Other state POST Certification (requires transition school) $1,000 incentive Documented evidence of the training level must be provided and is subject to verification by the Human Resources department and all certifications must be issued by or approved by the State of Tennessee EEO/AA This is a Safety Sensitive position subject to pre-employment, random and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing as allowed by law.
