SYNOPSIS
The Alabama Department of Commerce is seeking an experienced Attorney III. This senior-level attorney will provide legal support across a wide range of agency operations, including contracts, regulatory compliance, economic development programs, and legislative matters, and will report directly to the General Counsel.
Duties and Responsibilities Draft, negotiate, and review contracts, MOUs, and legal agreements
Advise leadership and staff on legal issues involving administrative, constitutional, procurement, and economic development law
Conduct legal research and prepare formal memoranda and policy guidance
Support the Department’s work with incentive agreements, grant administration, and interagency coordination
Legislative tracking and analysis Work Habits
Communicates professionally with staff, company representatives, co-workers, government officials, and the general public, as required.
Plans daily/weekly work schedule.
Maintains housekeeping to organizational standards.
Accountable for Commerce resources within assigned area(s) of responsibility.

Required Minimum Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Admission to the Alabama State Bar and eligibility to practice law in Alabama
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible legal experience
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in public sector, procurement, or economic development law
Familiarity with Alabama’s public records laws and legislative processes
Experience with complex contract negotiation and statutory interpretation
Salary and General Initial placement will be based on experience and education within a range of $86,359 – $145,303. Paid monthly. Excellent benefits package included.
