The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Senior Bequests Specialist provides administrative subject matter expertise for all aspects of bequests, e.g., trusts, estates, and financial beneficiary designations, serves as leading resource on bequest-related issues for the WWP legal, major gifts/planned giving, finance/accounting, and records management teams, and collaborates as a liaison for WWP with external bequest-related entities and individuals including attorneys, financial advisors, trustees, and personal representatives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide senior leadership and guidance on behalf of the legal department for bequests administration (trusts, estates, and financial beneficiary designations). Review, analyze, interpret, and approve bequest-related legal and financial notices and correspondence. Perform administrative duties for bequests, i.e., real property, waiver and release and settlement transactions, and risk assessment. Consult with WWP legal counsel, bequests manager, and outside counsel when bequest-related legal judgment, opinion, or advice is needed. Actively participate in development of legal strategies designed to protect WWP’s beneficial interests. Collaborate and coordinate effectively with other charities during litigation when beneficial interests are aligned. Prepare drafts of documents, correspondence, reports related to bequest files. Organize and maintain accurate bequest records, case files, and correspondence. Collect and compile information, materials, documents, and other records. Provide litigation support. Perform quality assurance review of bequest-related policies, procedures, and practices. Provide leadership in the areas of charitable gifts and planned-giving topics in collaboration with internal teams. Leads the preparation and delivery of bequest training and education for trust and estate administration, unique assets, and effectively work to develop less experienced staff. Collaborate with and provide support to the Independence Program team for Long-term Support Trust (LTST) program. Provide input on long-term support trust (LTST) and information on services offered by LTST. Collaborate with WWP’s Gift Acceptance team (GAT) regarding review, evaluation and recommendations for unique/illiquid bequests presented to WWP. Coordinate and communicate with WWP staff in major gifts/planned giving, finance/accounting, and records management teams to ensure continuity of support for bequest-related administrative services. Maintain safeguards of confidential company information and personally identifying information. Attend and actively participate in required training and/or meetings, including but not limited to New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, Leadership training, culture/team based training, or departmental huddles. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Displayed expertise in the areas of trust and estate laws, including restricted gifts, charitable trusts, special needs planning, public benefits qualifications, e.g., Social Security, SSI, Medicare, Medicaid, veterans benefits, pooled income trusts, and ABLE accounts. Provide leadership and exhibit excellent communication skills with the tactful, mature, and flexible ability to interact with a variety of professional disciplines, both internal and external to WWP, including attorneys, financial advisors, trustees, personal representatives, etc. Strong organizational and time management skills with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to interact at a high level with diverse individuals, and establish and build effective working relationships internally and externally. Proactive approach to relationship management and partnering. Exceptional interpersonal skills. Excellent attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to lead through change, prioritize, and effectively handle multiple priorities with tight deadlines. Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning to enhance knowledge in bequests and planned giving and better support the organization. Demonstrated understanding of Wounded Warrior Project and its mission, values, programs and services, and the impact of these programs and services on wounded warriors and their families. Advanced experience using Salesforce CRM and Microsoft Office, e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. High energy level. Self-starter; willing to take initiative. EXPERIENCE

Requirements Five years of experience working with trusts and estates. Three years of experience in administration, sales, or education for charitable giving strategies. Preferences Five years of experience working in a non-profit organization.

EDUCATION

Requirements Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. Equivalent combination of education, experience, training, or certification may be considered in lieu of degree..

CREDENTIALS/LICENSURE

Requirements Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA) or Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or similar professional designation. Preferences None.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

General office environment, temperature controlled. Up to 5% travel.
