Carlton Fields is seeking a Conflicts Counsel. This position can be based in Miami, Orlando, Tallahassee, Tampa or West Palm Beach. The Conflicts Counsel reports to the Director of New Business Intake (“Director”) and works closely with the General Counsel (“GC”) to resolve conflicts of interest, whether arising because of new business intake or incoming lateral attorneys.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Analyze and resolve potential conflicts for new business intake and incoming lateral attorneys. Train, supervise, and support conflicts analysts. Assist lawyers in drafting and negotiating conflict waivers with Firm clients. Assist Director of Legal Talent Management in facilitating conflicts clearance for incoming lateral attorneys. Draft memos establishing ethical screens and monitor compliance with such screens. Determine when conflicts issues should be escalated for review by the Director and/or GC. Maintain knowledge of current laws and rules pertaining to conflicts of interest in each jurisdiction in which the firm maintains an office and ensure consistent conflicts and ethics practices across all of the firm’s offices. Provides support in such other areas as the Director and GC deem appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A JD from a well-regarded law school, in addition to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Admission to a bar in a jurisdiction in which the Firm has an office in the U.S. is preferred. At least three years of combined experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm or equivalent experience, combined with recent law firm compliance experience working in a multi-location and multi-office organization. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize workloads. Ability to present ideas in a business-friendly and user-friendly language, and to analyze and process complex material. Actual salaries will vary depending upon various factors, including relevant experience and skillset. The salary range listed is just one component of the Carlton Fields total compensation package for employees.
