CABA Neurodivergent Legal Assistance Program Position Type:

One Full-Time or Part-Time Position Available CABA Pro Bono Legal Services seeks a full- or part-time staff attorney to provide representation to parents and caregivers of individuals diagnosed with a Developmental Disability or a related disorder with respect to court proceedings and other legal alternatives to traditional guardianships necessary to provide decision making support as their loved one transitions to adulthood. CABA Pro Bono Legal Services is committed to effecting positive change in the lives of children, individuals and families in need through legal advocacy. Our team achieves this by offering free, direct legal assistance for civil legal matters to low-income Florida residents- regardless of race, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation or national origin. The staff attorney is responsible for their own caseload and the duties will include, but not limited to the following:

  • Interview prospective clients
  • Draft and execute documents for client
  • Prepare guardianship petitions and related pleadings
  • Communicate with opposing parties
  • Represent clients in probate court
  • Assist in education workshops for clients and participate in client outreach
  • Compile data on cases and reporting to the administration for weekly reporting
  • Maintain weekly communication with all clients being represented in this Program.
  • Attend meetings and training to best collaborate with partner organizations and obtain client referrals
  • Prepare for and attend all hearings on behalf of prospective guardian advocates
  • Bachelor’s and Juris Doctorate (JD) or U.S. Bachelor’s Equivalent and U.S. Master of Laws (LLM)
  • License to Practice law in the State of Florida
  • Member in good standing of Florida Bar
  • No experience (newly admitted attorney’s will be considered)
  • Good communication skills
  • Spanish and/or Haitian creole is required
  • The ideal candidate is committed to public interest law and community services
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office
  • Knowledge of Legal Server a plus
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Travel throughout Miami Dade county and adjacent counties as needed to conduct community outreach
  • Salary depends on experience
