6/30/2025 11:59 PM Eastern Description The Assistant General Counsel will support the Vice President for Legal Affairs on legal issues affecting New College of Florida, with primary focus on reviewing and responding to requests under Florida’s Public Records Act and serving as the College’s accreditation liaison, which has primary responsibility for accreditation compliance and supporting faculty and staff in preparing assessment plans and reports. Examples of Duties Additional responsibilities will include working on issues specific to higher education, such issues related to Student Affairs, including but not limited to student conduct, student safety and health/wellness, student-focused federal and state regulatory compliance (including FERPA, Title IV, Title VI, Title IX, Clery Act compliance), residential life, Americans with Disability Act and Section 504 compliance, and student activities. Review and analyze requests made under Florida’s Public Records Law and coordinate the search and production of responsive documents. Coordinate assessment activities for compliance with SACSCOC standards related to assessment and institutional effectiveness and assists with other College and/or program specialized accreditations. Contributes to drafting of SACSCOC-related reports and letters. Coordinate and manage the process of transitioning to a new accreditor. Recommend changes to University policies, procedures, and operations for compliance with legal obligations or mitigation of legal risk, including Labor and Employment, Title IX, Equal Opportunity, Florida
Statues, Board of Governors Regulations, FERPA, ADA, etc. Work with various stakeholders at the University to advise on legal implications in connection with issues and concerns raised by faculty, staff, and students. Respond to grievances, complaints, demands, and regulatory inquiries directed to the University. Develop, draft, and interpret University policies, and provide expert counsel on issues of policy formation and application. Review labor and employment processes and procedures and training programs for University staff on the same. Draft and review agreements relating to potential, current, and separating employees to ensure legality and form. Advise University leadership on new developments and trends within Higher Education regulation, and the impact of court decisions on University administration. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications A Juris Doctorate from a nationally recognized law school and admission to the Florida Bar. Preferred Qualifications Experience in governmental operations, administrative law, and/or Higher Education Law is highly preferred.
