Deputy Director of Financial Stability-Legal Aid Gulfcoast Legal Services Venice, FL 34285 • Hybrid work Gulfcoast Legal Services (GLS) is looking to fill the exciting leadership role of Deputy Director for our Financial Stability Department! This role will help build and shape the program’s legal services and provide guidance and supervision to a team of around 7 individuals. Remote work opportunities up to 2 days a week are available after 90 days. GLS offers a dynamic and flexible work environment. GLS is a Tampa Bay area legal aid non-profit, that provides free legal services to qualifying applicants. POSITION SUMMARY
The Deputy Director of Financial Stability will assist in the financial, administrative, personnel, and programmatic management of the Financial Stability unit. They will help ensure compliance with legal, funder, and audit requirements and will represent GLS in local, regional, state, and national legal communities as well as with public interest partners. The ideal candidate is an inclusive, adaptive leader with experience in public interest law / consumer law issues, client representation, project management, and has a compassionate understanding for the barriers low-income clients face. They will posses a drive and underlying commitment to ensuring vulnerable people can meet their basic needs and obtain equal access to opportunities and justice.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise complex legal work of other victim services advocates (paralegals, private attorneys, and volunteers). Fills in for other attorneys as needed. Provides guidance, training, and input on cases to support less experienced staff. Evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of cases and prepares complex cases for presentation in court. Oversees staff’s preparation for and performance in State and Federal courts for motions, trials, arguments, hearings, rules to show cause, pre-trial conferences, status conferences, roster/docket sounding, and appeals. Builds and maintains relationships with task force members, community partners, etc. to coordinate and improve the provision of direct victim services. Assists in identifying and recommending staff training within the substantive area. Leads unit meetings, advocate meetings, task forces, and program wide meetings.

Familiarity with and adherence to the company mission. Satisfactory completion of duties and responsibilities of the position as required by management and supervision.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, required. Ability to deal professionally, courteously and efficiently with people of all backgrounds. Ability to plan, direct and coordinate activities; work with government agencies, community groups and other organizations as necessary; exhibit independent judgment in the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, procedures and policies. Ability to work on various projects with different priorities. Ability to work overtime if required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A commitment to the provision of high-quality legal services to the poor. Juris Doctorate degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school. Florida Bar membership and eligibility to practice law in the State of Florida. No action and/or disciplinary measure taken by the Florida Bar preferred. At least 15 years’ experience as a practicing attorney, preferably in a legal aid setting. Reliable vehicle for business-related travel, and must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and auto insurance. Gulfcoast Legal Services is an equal opportunity employer. Salary is commensurate with experience but will generally start at $80,000/yr.
