This role is located in NYC, NY Pittsburgh, PA OR Lake Mary, FL-hybrid 3 days- office In this role, you will make an impact in thefollowing ways: As a more experienced attorney, providesspecialized, expert employment legal advice and support to aleading global financial services company, including, but notlimited to: providing counsel to all levels of the People BusinessPartners (“PBP”) team and business or functional area leaders onemployment related legal issues; investigating and defending claimsand litigations; educating PBPs to mitigate employment law risks;and advising on the creation of best in class employment relatedprograms and policies. Viewed as a trusted internal resourcecapable of using knowledge of BNY businesses, products, servicesand/or strategies to articulate and advance legal positions. Musthave strong knowledge of federal, state and city employment lawsand regulations and, have the ability to expertly advise, counseland train clients on the same. The candidate must have strongemployment litigation experience as well as experience in handlingcharges of discrimination filed with federal, state and city humanrights commissions and be able to expertly manage all aspects oflitigation, including managing outside counsel, case management andcase strategy. The candidate must also have strong negotiationskills. Must also have background in M&A employment issues andenforcement of restrictive covenants. Also, the candidate must havedeep experience drafting and negotiating employment and separationagreements and developing policies, templates and guidance toensure compliance with various legal and business requirements.
Must have excellent legal and business judgment, a high degree ofdiscretion, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workload, adapt to changingconditions and execute with excellence in a complex matrixenvironment. The candidate must have the demonstrated ability tohandle multiple projects and drive them to conclusion in a timelymanner. To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
Advanced Legal Degree or local country equivalent degree usuallyrequired. Progression to this level usually requireslicensure/certification by the local country or jurisdiction. Insome jurisdictions, may not require licensure or certification forplacement in the role, in others, licensure/certification isrequired. 8-12 years minimum work experience in the practice ofemployment law as a qualified attorney is preferred. Priorcorporate legal experience within the financial services industryor experience in assigned practice area (e.g., securities,employment, etc.) with an outside law firm is preferred. The base salary for thisposition is expected to be between $165,000 and $240,000 per yearat the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hiredwill be determined on an individualized basis, including as toexperience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM totalcompensation package, which, depending on the position, may alsoinclude commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short andlong-term incentive packages, and company- sponsored benefitprograms.
