The Office of the General Counsel is searching for an Associate General Counsel (AGC). The AGC will work on a variety of legal matters and projects with a primary focus on litigation related matter, but will also perform other general legal duties including contract review, legal research, matter management, etc. The AGC will also be asked to assist the GC/Corporate Secretary with Board of Trustee coordination, risk management and other related matters. This AGC will work with a team that provides the legal expertise that both protects and furthers the mission of the MSM. This role supports the MSM and its faculty clinical practice, Morehouse Health Care (MHC) by providing practical legal advice and recommendations on day to day legal issues enabling the MSM and MHC to meet its mission objectives. The ideal candidate will have in-house legal experience, be a business-minded attorney who understands business objectives and helps balance legal risks under tight deadlines. This individual is also a creative problem-solver and a collaborative team player. Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA accredited law school.
Experience:
5-8 years’ experience as an attorney. Five (5) or more years’ experience in litigation. Must be licensed to practice in the State of Georgia or the ability to get licensed within 6-12 months of date of hire. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a teaching hospital and/or academic medical center. Job Duties Description of Job Duty Prepare responses to document requests such as subpoenas, discovery, requests including preparing search terms for electronic searches and reviewing documents for redaction. Assist General Counsel in managing litigation and working with outside counsel representing the institution; assist with the identification and preparation of witnesses; prepare litigation updates for the General Counsel. Perform legal research and provide legal advice and counsel on a range of legal topics including higher education law, regulatory matters, and procurement. Draft and interpret university policies, standards and procedures, and review proposed legislative bills, resolutions, and amendments affecting the Morehouse School of Medicine, and performs additional duties as assigned.
