As a member of our in-house litigation team,attorneys in this role will handle a diverse portfolio oflitigation and pre-litigation disputes and take reasonable steps tomake certain that the Company, its team members, dealers, andthird-party service providers are complying with Company policiesand procedures and applicable consumer protection laws andregulations. Attorneys will research and resolve complaints, manageoutside counsel where necessary and within a reasonable budget, andhelp counsel the business on lessons learned.
Outcomes andActivities :
This position will work from home; occasional plannedtravel to an assigned Southfield, Michigan office location may berequired. However, this position is permitted to work at aSouthfield, Michigan office locations if requested by the teammember. Enforce and defend Company’s interests in litigation anddisputed matters.
This includes:
Managing a diverse portfolio oflitigation and pre-litigation complaints (such as those submittedto the Company for investigation through governmental agencies, theBetter Business Bureau, or an email portal). Working with teammembers, customers, dealers, and third-party service providers tode-escalate and resolve disputes. Retaining, overseeing, anddirecting the scope of all work of outside legal counsel inlitigation matters (such as negotiating fee arrangements,cost-effective staffing of matters, and setting and executing alitigation strategy to achieve the best possible outcomes).Performing substantive work related to litigation andpre-litigation disputes, such as working with experts, editinglegal briefs, preparing witnesses, and negotiating settlements.
Keeping legal management team apprised of and solicit their inputas appropriate on significant legal issues. Execute aspects of theCompany’s Complaint Management Program.
This includes:
Monitoringvarious listening posts, including complaints, industry litigation,and news publications, to enhance the Company’s compliance withconsumer financial protection laws; Performing complaint trendanalyses; Reporting compliance, coaching, training, and policyopportunities identified; Working with attorneys from the CorporateLegal Department to counsel the business on how to reduce riskbased upon lessons learned; and Summarizing observations forCompany executives. Develop expertise in consumer financialprotection laws. Perform legal research as requested and documentfindings in a formal white paper where appropriate. Periodicperformance feedback from team members throughout the organizationwill be sought and will be considered when assessing yourperformance.

Requirements :
Licensed as an attorney to practice law, with aminimum of 5 years as a practicing lawyer with law firm litigationexperience. Litigation experience should include engaging in allaspects of written discovery, taking and defending depositions,motion practice, as well as trial or arbitration experience, andexperience working directly with clients. Excellent professionaland academic credentials. Have excellent legal research and writingskills, including familiarity with Westlaw.
Preferred:
Experiencein some of the following areas: consumer finance law, debtcollection, credit reporting, the Telephone Consumer ProtectionAct, commercial contract litigation, and arbitration. Experiencerepresenting clients in matters with state or federal regulators.
Targeted Compensation:
