Counsel amerisafe inc DeRidder, LA 70634 AMERISAFE is seeking a detail-oriented, productivity driven professional to add to our “Excellence Team” based in DeRidder, LA. Counsel will assist in providing legal support to ensure company compliance with laws, rules and regulations of the states where the Company is licensed. Principal areas of focus will be regulatory law and compliance, subsidiary governance and responsibility for corporate records and documents. With respect to regulatory law, the individual will be responsible for research on compliance insurance laws and regulations, as well as other regulations, which impact all of AMERISAFE’s businesses; monitoring and analyzing regulatory and legislative developments. Counsel will draft, review, and interpret contracts and agreements as required. Upon an offer and acceptance of employment with AMERISAFE, you will be required to complete our pre-employment screening, which includes a criminal background check, a 10-panel drug test and, if applicable, a review of your motor vehicle report. A 10-panel drug test includes amphetamine/methamphetamine, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine metabolite (BZE), marijuana metabolite (THCA), methadone, methaqualone, codeine/morphine, phencyclidine, propoxyphene.

Qualifications:

Lawyer with three (3) years experience Experience in and/or knowledge of insurance regulatory environment, workers’ compensation. Strong technical legal skills. Strong communication skills. Foster the

Responsibilities:

Provide legal support and research across the Company as it relates to regulatory law and compliance in all states where the Company is licensed, including but not limited to law specific to insurance and workers’ compensation Provide legal support to Company departments as needed and assigned Assist the Chief Administrative Officer with sustainability and governance initiatives for holding company reporting Assist Deputy General Counsel with Premium Audit appeal board hearings and preparation, including but not limited to, position papers Legal support and oversight of social media policies and platforms for the Company and its subsidiaries Manage subsidiary governance for compliance with Nebraska and Texas law requirements Provide legal support on rate filings, form filings, and annual holding company filings to ensure compliance Review and negotiate contracts Handle complaints received through departments of insurance and rating bureaus; work with operational departments to formulate responses, and draft responses. Through formal complaints and other matters, evaluate Company business practices and make recommendations to business team members to ensure compliance. Review and analyze regulatory information and documents from various state agencies such as the Departments of Insurance and Workers’ Compensation Commissions, NCCI and other rating and reporting agencies and provide assistance with the interpretation and application of the law. Review agent background reports, as necessary, for evaluation and recommendation on suitable affiliates for the Company Provide legal support to the Deputy General Counsel for cybersecurity Provide legal review and interpretation for licensing laws that impact the Company and its agents including background checks on prospective independent producers as requested by the Licensing Department. Assist the Deputy General Counsel in reviewing and approving collection matters to go to outside legal, in administrative hearings on disputes, and in collections litigation and potential litigation. Provide assistance to the Deputy General Counsel in responding to discovery requests for Company and Claims Litigation Matters. Assist in any Company litigation Utilize good judgment, common sense and professionalism, maintain confidentiality, acknowledge and avoid conflicts of interest Travel, as required Perform other duties and projects, as assigned This position may require additional duties to be assigned.
