(SCCLS) is the leading legal services program for Southeastern Massachusetts, with 95 staff across 5 offices. We provide high quality legal assistance to advance equity and opportunity for our clients in housing, public benefits, family law, education, consumer, elder law, and immigration. Under new leadership, SCCLS is in a period of substantial growth and innovation. SCCLS seeks to hire another Supervising Attorney to join the Family Law team. Our Family Law practice primarily represents eligible clients in family law matters where domestic violence is involved. The team provides quality legal representation, work on grants supporting family law efforts, assists with the timely preparation of grant reports, engages in outreach and community education, and engages with the statewide network of advocates representing clients experiencing domestic violence. The position will be in our Brockton SCCLS office. We seek attorneys committed to racial and economic justice for low-income communities through the provision of high-quality client centered legal representation. Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develop and implement an articulated vision for advocacy for a team of family law practitioners while maintaining a small and strategic caseload. 2. Supervise overall work of unit advocacy staff to enhance and improve the family law expertise of the entire team so that they can better identify and address legal issues confronting our diverse and low income communities. 3. Help develop/revise standards of practice and use regular case review and other supervision skills to develop the skills of staff and to ensure their professional development. Ensure adherence to case handling standards, funder requirements, and the highest professional standards across the unit. 4. Effectively engage with the organization’s leadership team, advocacy staff, survivors practice group, and community groups and organizations to develop and collaborate in strategic initiatives, community needs assessments, and to respond to emerging trends and changing policies affecting clients with family law issues. Develop, support, and oversee the litigation, systemic and policy advocacy of the family law team while ensuring that they are actively engaged with the family law team, our local community partners, and the statewide community. 5. Ensure advocacy staff are actively engaged with other program advocates, local community groups and organizations, and the statewide advocacy community to identify and address legal issues confronting our diverse and low-income communities; develop family law team expertise. 6. Work with appropriate staff to pursue new funding opportunities, prepare grant applications and reports, and monitor compliance. 7. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.

Qualifications:

1. Admitted in MA or eligible for admission, minimum 5 years of legal practice with substantive expertise in family law issues, and understanding or experience with intersecting systems affecting our client communities. 2. The ability and will to lead and advance the family law practice shown through significant experience with advocacy in a variety of forums including federal, state, and appellate courts, administrative agencies and/or legislative bodies. 3. Strong leadership and mentoring skills coupled with a leadership style that inspires and encourages professional growth in others with a demonstrated ability to supervise across differences. 4. An established skillset in identifying and responding to emerging issues and policies affecting familial and economic stability for low-income families. 5. Ability to foster inclusivity, equity and humility when working with clients, colleagues and in supervising staff at the intersection of multiple identities, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, immigration status, religion, physical and mental disability, and/or limited English proficiency. 6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 7. Capacity to facilitate groups and meetings in a team based framework that embraces differences and promotes principles of equity. 8. Commitment to race equity, anti-racism and economic justice in the workplace and in providing legal services; prior racial justice and/or systemic focused experience required. 9. Ability to engage effectively in person and remotely with people from diverse cultures, with diverse opinions and values, including with staff, volunteers, students, community members and funders. 10. Fluency in a second language which reflects our client communities (Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, Khmer, and others) desirable.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary starts at $86,500 with increases based on experience and is based on a collective bargaining agreement scale enhanced for supervisory role, includes yearly standard increases, multi-lingual annual increment for demonstrated language skills. This position is not part of the collective bargaining unit.
