Job Description

GreaterBoston Legal Services seeks a staff attorney with 4 to 7 years ofexperience for a permanent position in the Elder, Health and DisabilityUnit (EHD). Please note GBLS has a hybrid work schedule and thisposition will be sited at GBLSs Boston Office. The staff attorney’sresponsibilities will include: Investigating and challenging improperMedicare denials of coverage of medical services to which elders andpeople with disabilities are entitled from advice, Administrativehearings to representation in Federal District Court. Participating instatewide coalitions, collaborating with state advocacy programs,conducting substantive trainings and addressing a wide range of Medicareissues Developing a leadership position in Medicare advocacy not only atGBLS, but statewide including giving oral trainings and editMedicare-related Elder law literature, once trained Assisting Medicarebeneficiaries in appealing Medicare terminations and premium penaltieswith the Social Security Administration.
Qualifications:
Candidate mustbe admitted to the Massachusetts Bar. This position is for an attorneywith 4 to 7 years of experience. Knowledge or understanding of Medicareand/or MassHealth is required. We are seeking someone with a commitmentto social justice. We are looking for a candidate who has the culturalcompetence to work with and advocate on behalf of low-income and diversepopulations. We are seeking an attorney with excellent oral and writtenskills. Fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole is helpful but notrequired.
