Staff Attorney / Consumer Rights Unit Position Available In Suffolk, Massachusetts

Greater Boston LegalServices (GBLS) seeks to hire a staff attorney with 0 to 3 years oflegal experience to work in the Consumer Rights Unit on a short-term (2months) basis during the period from July 1 through September 1, 2025.The attorney will represent low-income clients in a variety of consumermatters and will undertake major litigation that will strengthenconsumers rights.

Areas include:

debt collection cases, includingoverseeing and participating in our Debt Collection Lawyer for the DayProgram; FDCPA cases; bankruptcy matters; unfair and deceptivepractices; foreclosure defense; mortgage and property scam cases;consumer scam cases; reverse mortgage and tax foreclosure issues; andstudent loan issues. Representation may include litigation in a varietyof state courts as well as federal court and bankruptcy court, on bothindividual and systemic cases. Familiarity with debt collection,foreclosure, FDCPA, FCRA, bankruptcy, consumer issues and generallitigation experience a plus. In addition to litigation, the attorneywill assist in community education and outreach activities, andlegislative and other advocacy efforts on behalf of clients.

Requirements:

Admission to the Massachusetts Bar or comity. Thepreferred candidate will possess excellent analytical, writing, researchand litigation skills; the ability to work both independently and with ateam; and have a demonstrated commitment to providing legal services tolow-income clients. The ability to speak a language other than Englishthat is frequently utilized by our client communities is preferred butnot required. A minimum of 0 to 3 years of related experience isrequired for this position.
