Real Estate Attorney Red Door Title South Portland, ME Real Estate Title Attorney Seeking a Licensed Maine and/or New Hampshire Attorney for an in-house, hybrid or remote position in a multi-state Real Estate Closing Company with offices in Maine and New Hampshire. Preferred Attorney will have 2+ years experience in residential real estate conveyancing. Licensure in both NH and Maine is a plus but not required. May work In-Person at one of our offices, Remote, or a hybrid of both – depending on factors.

Job Summary:

The Title Attorney will review deeds, mortgages, and other title documents submitted as part of the title search to determine the marketability and insurability of a title in order to issue a loan and/or owner title policy in accordance with all applicable state laws and title standards. In addition, the Title Attorney may draft and approve legal documents and speak to matters of law.

Must be:

  • Able to work with other team members, customers, real estate agents, title insurance underwriters, and lenders utilizing excellent inter-personal skills.

Typical work duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Review title abstract and to determine what liens/mortgages or other fees need to be paid off and discharged, partial released, subordinated taking into consideration the parameters set by a lender or the type of transaction. Review title abstract and to determine what the easements, restrictions and exclusions for the subject property, taking into consideration the parameters set by a lender or the type of transaction. Review title abstract and determine what real estate title defects, issues and matters may need to be addressed and cleared (or not cleared). Since a title abstract may not include all documents, Review the registry of deeds/bankruptcy court/probate/superior court for the applicable county to pull any documents or plans necessary to be able to determine marketability. Prepare a title commitment, including the type of policy, including but not limited to the legal description, general & special requirements, vesting, and exceptions, as they may be apply. Select the endorsements as needed, calculate the policy amount. Clear the title to close or flag as title issue and report steps needed to clear. Answer questions from marketer/closers/processors on questions of title. Prepare/approve documents needed by the Title Examiners such as preparing escrow holdbacks, deeds and other documents that may be necessary in the closing process. The Title Attorney may create forms that may be used by others. Works effectively throughout the closing process with a variety of industry professionals such as title insurance agents and other RDT employees. Occasionally working with customers, real estate agents and paralegals/lawyers. Review outside prepared documents such as deeds and plot plans and approve or deny. Knowledge of standard computer programs for an office, including MS Word, Adobe PDFs, and email. Knowledge of Closing Vue/E-Closing is also a plus but not required. Competitive pay and benefits.

Education, Experience and Licensing:

JD degree required Bar License required Knowledge of real estate conveyance law and title standards. Understanding of coverages of title policy insurance.

  • Title Producer License for Maine and New Hampshire – may be obtained post hire
