SUMMARY:

This remote position will work in collaboration with senior attorneys to represent clients and/or policyholders in workers’ compensation litigation , primarily focused on achieving resolution through settlement. The role will also involve assisting with discovery, trial, and appeals, as well as offering advisory opinions on legal matters, including policy inception and coverage issues.

Litigation Attorney Accountabilities:

Perform duties in alignment with the organization’s vision, mission, and core values. Attend conferences, pre-hearings, and mediations; negotiate and settle claims. Provide legal counsel to internal departments and policyholders as requested. Communicate professionally with courts, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel. Facilitate prompt, efficient, and effective resolution of assigned cases. Assist in preparing and presenting witnesses and evidence at depositions, trials, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and other dispute resolution settings. Draft pleadings, written discovery, motions, and legal briefs in support of defense strategies. Prepare legal documents and memoranda. Negotiate settlement of workers’ compensation claims within the authority granted by claims representatives. Conduct legal research and prepare formal written opinions; provide informal legal advice to claims representatives, management, and other departments. Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, especially claims personnel, to support business strategy and execution. Advise on litigation plans and keep stakeholders informed of significant case developments. Support and advise subrogation personnel in protecting and pursuing third-party claims. Participate in continuing legal education (CLE) seminars to maintain a high level of legal and professional competence. Perform additional duties as directed by the Managing Attorney, Vice President of Claims, General Counsel’s Office, or other executive leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS

Juris Doctor (JD) degree Must be licensed to practice law in Missouri and/or Kansas A valid driver’s license is required Minimum of one (1) year of experience in trial, administrative hearings, appellate work, or workers’ compensation preferred Ready to take the next step?
