Job Description

Position Summary The Attorney Development Manager will play a critical role in the professional growth and development of attorneys within the firm. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive training programs, career development plans, and resource libraries to support attorneys at various stages of their careers. The AD Manager must be able to collaborate effectively with the Attorney Development team and other firm departments including Recruiting, DEI, HR, and Client Services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in legal training and development, excellent organizational skills, demonstrated success in navigating a high performing client focused environment , and th e ability to build trust with leadership and key stakeholders.

Essential Functions Practice Group/Skills Training:

Use the firm’s performance competency framework to align existing programs and identify gaps in skill development from associate through of counsel. Organize centralized firmwide workshops, seminars, and other sessions to enhance attorneys’ legal and professional skills. Develop and implement learning and development programs tailored to the specific needs of attorneys at various experience levels . Identify internal firm experts to lead local, regional, and national programs.

Firmwide Experience Level Academies:

Design and manage a comprehensive series of in-person, remote and/or hybrid academies and learning experiences for non-shareholder attorneys at all levels of experience (e.g., junior, mid-level, senior , of counsel ). Ensure that each experience provides relevant and progressive training to support career advancement. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of experiences and make improvements as needed. Point of Need’ Resources:

Create and maintain a comprehensive library of resources that individual attorneys can access as needed. Identify internal and external resources to support specific skill development aligned with firm’s c ompetency and b enchmark framework. M aintain bank of developmental resources (toolkits, videos, presentation materials) for p ractice g roups and o ffices that are adaptable and customizable . Serve as trusted advisor to offices and practice groups for attorney learning and development.

External Learning and Development Opportunities:

Identify an d manage external development opportunities, including pro bono matters , secondments, and specialized external programs (e.g., NITA) . Collaborate with internal teams to develop criteria for external opportunities and identify participants . Track and evaluate the impact of external opportunities on attorneys’ professional development. Partner with Practice Groups on

Internal Talent Development Pipelines :

Collaborate with practice groups to identify specific skill or experience gaps and create targeted programming or initiatives to address . Promote practice groups internally and assist in identifying developing/recruiting associates and of counsel internally to meet staffing needs .

Career Development Plans:

Develop and implement individualized career development plans for attorneys to achieve goals, using firm’s c ompetency framework . Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to ensure continuous professional growth. 1:1 advising for associates and of counsel as needed. Assist in revising c ompetencies and b enchmarks as needed.

Requirements Education/Training/Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s degree or JD, preferred .

Professional Experience:

8+ years of experience in a professional services environment with a m inimum of 5 years of experience in professional development or as a practicing attorney . Experience in curriculum design, adult learning, and legal skill development preferred. Experience with instructional design is a plus.
