Full-time, Non-Partnership Track Our client, a business law firm with a growing focus on public sector clients, is seeking an experienced Lateral Attorney with significant education law experience to join its team in North Carolina . This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned attorney to integrate into a dynamic firm that values both legal excellence and practical client service across a variety of business and public law matters. Position Overview The ideal candidate will have at least seven years of experience representing public school boards or educational institutions—preferably within a law firm or government setting—and will bring strong academic credentials, a strategic mindset, and a client-first approach to legal practice. •This is a non-partnership role designed for a highly capable attorney who thrives in an independent, flexible work environment.•Responsibilities Advise and represent public school boards on a variety of legal matters, including governance, employment, student discipline, policy development, and compliance with federal and state regulations. Draft and review contracts, board policies, and legal memoranda. Assist in the resolution of administrative and legal disputes, including litigation support when necessary. Stay current with developments in education law and relevant case law impacting public school systems Qualifications J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials . Active membership in the North Carolina State Bar . Minimum of 7 years’ experience practicing business law , preferably advising public school boards . Experience working in or with a business law firm is a plus. Excellent research, writing, and client communication skills. Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities. Demonstrated professionalism and sound judgment in advising institutional clients. Location & Work Schedule Candidate may be based in Raleigh, Greensboro, or Wilmington, NC . Flexible weekday hours ; coordination with support staff (available 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM) may be required. Hybrid work arrangements available.
Compensation Starting salary:
$195,000+/year (negotiable) Comprehensive benefits package offered, including health insurance, CLE support, and paid time off.
