Bar Full Job Description Overview:
A Well-established National Organization responsible for one of the largest and most complex transportation networks in the U.S. is expanding its in-house legal team. This agency is expanding their Tort Litigation Division and are looking to hire multiple Attorneys to join their growing legal department.
Role Summary:
The Tort Litigation Attorney will handle a diverse and high-volume caseload involving personal injury and property damage claims. This role offers the opportunity to work on impactful litigation matters that directly affect public operations and safety.
Primary Responsibilities:
Represent the agency in court proceedings, including trials, hearings, and motion practice. Manage tort litigation cases from inception through resolution, including discovery, depositions, and settlement negotiations. Draft legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and internal memoranda. Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to align litigation strategies. Provide legal advice to agency personnel and contribute to broader legal initiatives. Participate in mediations and support efforts to resolve claims efficiently. Contribute to litigation strategy development, particularly for more complex or high-exposure cases.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school. 1-7+ years of litigation experience, ideally in tort, municipal, or personal injury defense. (compensation will be determined by the candidates years of experience) Strong command of civil litigation procedures in both state and federal courts. Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills. Ability to manage a demanding caseload independently while working collaboratively with a legal team. Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
Preferred Background:
Familiarity with claims involving premises liability, motor vehicle accidents, or public transit systems. Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal tort laws.
Work Environment:
This is an on-site role based in Downtown Brooklyn, with a four-day in-office workweek.
