Staff Attorney 4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars Charleston, SC 29401 Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in Charleston, SC. Charleston Pro Bono is dedicated to providing civil legal services to low-income clients. We are seeking a Staff Attorney to work under the supervision of a Senior Staff Attorney to continue the growth and success of our mission. Primary areas of practice will include family law and estate planning.
Major Job Duties :
Provide legal services to clients, including advice and counsel, brief services, and limited direct representation Conduct client intake, identify legal issues, and determine case eligibility Manage client expectations and oversee case progress Develop and enhance systems for intake coordination, outreach, appointment scheduling, case management, and referrals Maintain accurate case records and track statistics using an online case management system Draft legal documents, pro se pleadings, and appropriate correspondence Organize and facilitate pro se legal clinics Recruit and engage volunteer attorneys as needed Conduct community outreach programs and legal clinics Assist in the administration of the Fellowship Programs Supervise, train, and mentor paralegals, volunteers, and externs
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
J.D. from an accredited law school Member of the South Carolina Bar in good standing (February 2025 Bar takers may apply) Completion of South Carolina Rule 403 Trial Experiences or ability to complete within three months of hire Strong organizational, time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills; Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to advocate persuasively for the organization’s mission Demonstrated passion for advancing justice for low-income and vulnerable populations Empathy and understanding of the unique legal challenges facing our clientele Ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines Interest and ability to manage, mentor, and train law clerks and volunteers Diverse economic, social and cultural experiences and a second language are preferred

$60,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year
