Richland County, SC Job Responsibilities General Responsibility:

Serve as an attorney for SLED working under the direction of SLED’s Office of General Counsel. Perform all necessary and assigned legal tasks and responsibilities to support SLED and the Office of General Counsel.

Specific Duties:

Advise and represent SLED and SLED personnel on designated legal matters and criminal justice issues. Perform professional legal research into criminal justice issues and prepare legal analysis, responses, briefs and other legal documents as needed to assist SLED and SLED personnel. Provide guidance and assistance to SLED personnel on issues relating to the application of state and federal law, regulations, guidelines and policies affecting SLED. Collaborate on legal matters with other state, local and federal law enforcement agencies and prosecutors as needed. Assist SLED’s Office of General Counsel with extradition matters and meeting deadlines in compliance with South Carolina’s FOIA and both criminal and civil discovery (to include electronic discovery). Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or assigned by SLED’s Office of General Counsel. Minimum and Additional Requirements Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law-school. Must be a member of the South Carolina Bar. Two years of legal experience. Must have completed Rule 403 trial experiences. Knowledge of the laws of South Carolina. Must possess excellent writing and communication skills and must have exceptional attention to detail. Ability to meticulously analyze reports and materials for completeness and accuracy in numerous contexts. Ability to interpret and provide legal guidance on the laws, regulations and policies that apply to SLED. Ability to review large quantities of information, analyze such and provide executive summaries. Preferred Qualifications Five years of legal experience, prior representation of a law enforcement agency or prior experience with e-discovery is preferred.
