LPL Financial seeks an experienced attorney to join its corporate legal advice team as Vice President, Assistant General Counsel specializing in retail investor agreements and conflict disclosures, with a focus on LPL’s advisory business but also supporting the broker-dealer and custodial business. This VP will report to a Senior Vice President responsible for providing strategic legal advice to various business units. This position will work with an experienced team of lawyers who provide pragmatic legal advice and thought leadership. The ideal candidate is one who can serve as the legal lead on cross-functional integration teams, thrive in a fast-paced business environment and manage a substantial docket autonomously. A qualified candidate will have relevant experience within a law firm, counseling the financial services industry, specifically the retail investment advisory and broker-dealer business with respect to federal, state and SRO regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:

Counseling wealth management business teams through all stages of the development of new initiatives, including creating or enhancing platforms and programs, supporting new affiliation and distribution models, and drafting related agreements and disclosures. Day-to-day legal support for LPL’s financial services business, including providing legal analysis and advice with respect to compliance with applicable rules, regulations and legal risks relating to primarily the investment advisory business, and supporting the broker-dealer and custodial businesses. Reviewing, revising and developing internal policies and procedures in response to business initiatives and regulatory developments. Performing legal research concerning compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations. Interacting with other members of the Legal team, as well as other key LPL business units, Operations, Supervision, Compliance and Risk. Supporting the Legal team’s effort to consistently review and improve policies and process to make what we do efficient and repeatable. What are we looking for? This position requires energized candidates with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate must demonstrate a growth mindset and keen strategic thinking, and have excellent analytical, project management and time management abilities. The candidate will be expected to perform thorough legal research and document such analyses and conclusions. Presentation skills are also highly important. Provide timely escalations to partners within LPL’s control functions, including risk assessments and status updates of matters for executive management.

Requirements:

5-7 years of experience in dealing with issues arising under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, Securities Exchange Act of 1934, FINRA and SEC rules and regulations as well as related federal and state securities laws. Prior experience drafting a single or master agreement for retail investors to open accounts in various brokerage and advisory programs and/or experience with connecting brokerage relationships with wrap programs would be very helpful. Understanding of regulatory landscape applicable to registered investment advisers and broker-dealers. Strong working knowledge of federal securities laws and rule making process; regulatory notices; interpretive guidance; and agency interpretations. $163,725

  • 272,875/year Actual base salary varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
