Litigation Paralegal Location:

Birmingham, AL At Lightfoot, Franklin & White, we are expanding our litigation team in Birmingham to handle a wide range of impactful cases. As a Litigation Paralegal, you will collaborate closely with experienced attorneys and staff to support all aspects of litigation, ensuring the efficient and effective case administration. This position is ideal for a dedicated individual with strong organizational skills, a comprehensive understanding of litigation procedures, and a passion for delivering high-quality work in a team-oriented legal environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Case Management:

Assist attorneys in organizing and managing both electronic and physical case files, track deadlines, and ensure timely filing of all necessary documents.

Court Filings:

Prepare, organize, and file legal documents in state and federal courts, and with administrative agencies. Monitor court calendars and deadlines.

Subpoena Management:

Prepare and coordinate subpoenas for witnesses, records, and evidence. Track responses and maintain subpoena deadlines.

Discovery Preparation:

Support discovery by preparing draft discovery requests, assisting with document collection and review, and managing document production.

Document Preparation:

Draft, format, and organize documents for depositions, hearings, motions, and discovery. Ensure compliance with court rules and guidelines.

Trial Support:

Assist with trial preparation by maintaining trial notebooks, organizing exhibits, and coordinating logistics for trial attendance.

Client Communication:

Communicate with clients, witnesses, and third parties to gather information, schedule meetings, and provide case updates.

Expense Handling and Billing:

Submit and maintain invoices for case-related expenses and monitor billing hours.

Legal Compliance and Confidentiality:

Stay current with laws and regulations affecting litigation cases, handling sensitive information with discretion.

Administrative Duties:

Assist with general administrative tasks as needed, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.

Qualifications:
Education:

Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree, or Certificate in paralegal studies, legal studies, or a related field.

Experience:

Several years of experience in litigation, with familiarity from case initiation to post-trial procedures. Experience in product liability or civil litigation is a plus.

Skills & Knowledge:

In-depth understanding of litigation procedures and court rules for Alabama state and federal courts. Proficient in drafting and formatting legal documents such as motions, discovery requests, and trial materials. Experience with document collection, review, and production. Strong written and verbal communication skills for legal correspondence, client interaction, and attorney support. Exceptional organizational skills to manage case files, deadlines, and calendars. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Pro, ITimekeep, e-discovery tools, and document management software such as IManage. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, adapting to changing legal processes and technologies.
