We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Workers’ Compensation Defense Legal Assistant to represent our team in Central Missouri. We’re currently looking for a remote Legal Assistant who shares our commitment to justice, attention to detail, and genuine compassion for clients.
Responsibilities:
Answering phones Scheduling meetings Filing correspondence and other documents received via physical mail, email and/or fax Calendaring tasks for the attorney to review and/or respond Organizing medical records and claim documents Proofreading drafts created by attorneys and paralegals Entering billing and expenses each day as it is sent Posting expenses to files and update the attorney’s monthly expenses report Editing dictated letters and sending to attorney and/or paralegal for review and approval Sending out correspondence on behalf of the attorney/paralegal to appropriate parties as directed Filing any pleadings as needed with courts for things such as Entry of Appearance, Answers, Open Records Requests, Requests for Conferences/Pre-Hearing Conferences/Mediation Setting up Depositions as directed by Paralegal Setting up IME appointments as directed by the Paralegal Reviewing attorney’s calendar for conflicts and availability for the upcoming week File court notices when they are received, checking the calendar to make sure the information was entered correctly and create tasks for the Paralegal and Attorney to review and prepare Draft pleadings as requested and send to Paralegal for review/approval Request and weekly follow-up for medical records as requested Draft Open Record Requests when opening new files and when requested by Attorney/Paralegal Setting up new files as they come in (shared with Paralegal) Assisting Paralegal with updating matter pages as new medical records and other important information is received.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or related field or equivalent professional experience Excellent typing, proofreading, and organizational skills Self-motivated/self-starter Detail oriented Able to multi-task Able to work in a fast-paced environment Team player Able to accept and support changes as they are made High level of honesty and integrity High level interpersonal and communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal document formatting Excellent time management and organizational skills Ability to work independently in a remote environmentMust be located in
