The Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) is committed to protecting and nurturing Mississippi’s at-risk children and families. MDCPS offers a variety of positions statewide, including social work positions providing case management services and working with potential foster families, supervisor positions providing clinical and administrative support, and agency support positions such as policy development, human resources, information technology, program management, training, and budgeting/finance. Second-level vocational position accountable for legal work that involves conducting research for the preparation of legal documents, scheduling meetings, and preparing reports. Included are such tasks as making telephone contacts, composing and reviewing correspondence, obtaining and presenting information, setting up and maintaining files and records, typing briefs and other legal documents, and performing other related duties.
- Worker will schedule meetings for the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel and at least 5 attorneys in the MDCPS Office of Legal Counsel.
- Worker will be responsible for monitoring the main email address for the legal department and responding to emails. Requests for assistance from the legal department are routed through this email address. Record requests and subpoenas for documents are routed though this email address.
- Worker will assist the attorneys in reviewing and redacting MDCPS records so that they are produced in accordance with confidentiality statutes.
- Worker will assist the attorneys in the office with drafting memoranda of understanding, memoranda of agreement, interagency agreements, etc.
- Worker will assist the Deputy General Counsel in managing smartsheets to track all of the work projects in the Office of Legal Counsel.
- Worker will assist attorneys in the MDCPS Office of Legal Counsel with researching legal issues.
- Worker will assist attorneys with drafting pleadings to be filed in various courts in MS.
What you’ll need to be Successful Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related program software, demonstrate integrity, excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to adapt quickly, courteous, ability to maintain confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 2-4 years of related experience.
