Legal Assistant Position Available In Davidson, Tennessee

Description We are looking for a skilled Legal Assistant to join the Tennessee Department of Health’s Office of General Counsel in Nashville, Tennessee. In this long-term contract role, you will work closely with the Deputy General Counsel and attorneys, providing essential legal support for various projects, including contract reviews and public records requests. This position requires a collaborative mindset, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of confidentiality laws such as HIPAA and the Tennessee Public Records Act.

Responsibilities:

• Assist attorneys in reviewing grants, contracts, amendments, and other procurement-related documents.
• Support the preparation and review of records for public records requests, data inquiries, medical records requests, and media-related inquiries.
• Streamline processes for handling public records and other requests by utilizing automated case management systems.
• Provide legal guidance to department programs, ensuring compliance with public health laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with internal departments, administrative staff, and other state agencies to achieve legal objectives.
• Conduct research and complete special projects assigned by attorneys.
• Organize and maintain accurate records to ensure efficient time and case management.
• Advise on matters related to subpoenas and HIPAA authorizations.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices for legal operations. Requirements
• Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent education in Legal Assistant studies.
• Knowledge of confidentiality laws, including HIPAA and the Tennessee Public Records Act.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to follow through on tasks.
• Proficiency in time management and record-keeping.
• Familiarity with legal processes such as subpoenas and contract amendments.
• Previous experience in a legal or paralegal role is preferred.
