Job Description
Description We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our team on a long-term contract basis in Montpelier, Vermont. This role is ideal for someone with expertise in probate matters, estate planning, and legal documentation. You will play a key role in supporting operational teams, collaborating with attorneys, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist operational teams in interpreting and applying legal documents, including powers of attorney, conservatorship orders, divorce decrees, Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs), and bankruptcy filings.
- Educate internal teams on the implications of various ownership and beneficiary arrangements.
- Provide clear guidance on best practices for documentation to address potential future inquiries.
- Serve as a liaison between company attorneys and other departments to ensure seamless communication and legal compliance.
- Support probate matters by preparing and filing petitions and ensuring adherence to state probate laws.
- Collaborate on the review and preparation of wills, trust agreements, guardianship documents, and other estate planning materials.
- Offer expertise in state and federal laws related to divorce, trusts, estates, and bankruptcy.
- Stay updated on relevant legal regulations to provide accurate and informed guidance.
- Contribute to the development of processes that improve document management and legal oversight. Requirements
- Proven experience in probate matters and related legal proceedings.
- Strong knowledge of state probate laws, estate planning regulations, and basic estate tax principles.
- Familiarity with state laws governing trusts, estates, and divorce proceedings.
- Expertise in drafting and reviewing legal documents such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, QDROs, and guardianship/conservatorship orders.
- Understanding of federal bankruptcy laws and regulations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to analyze complex legal information.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with attorneys and educate internal teams.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
