Job Summary:
A Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for the enforcement of the Canaveral Port Authority’s Ground Transportation Rules and Regulations and for directing the safe and orderly movement of commercial vehicles. Officers shall provide informational assistance to the traveling public regarding the Port, commercial ground transportation services, and parking. An Officer’s enforcement authorization includes the authority to issue Notices of Violation; however, the designation of “Officer” does not convey the power of arrest, nor subject the designee to the provisions of Florida State Statute 943.085 – 943.255.
Essential Functions:
Enforcement of the CPA’s Ground Transportation Rules and Regulations Issuing Notices of Violation Inspecting commercial vehicles for valid permit decals Assessing the functionality of commercial vehicle tolling transponders Determining a commercial vehicle’s class designation by measuring the overall length of the vehicle Issuing temporary permits Authorizing the towing of vehicles Requesting the issuance of trespass warnings by law enforcement Issuing suspensions as appropriate to a commercial driver or affiliate in accordance Investigating and documenting violations, reports, logs, and correspondence Providing escorts/crowd control services Providing information and assistance to the traveling public in a professional and courteous manner Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and diplomacy at all times while interacting with the public, inclusive of situations that may be stressful or confrontational Aptitude to work well with minimal supervision and make decision independently Capacity to make well-reasoned and sound decisions under stressful conditions Perform other duties as assigned During emergency conditions, all CPA employees are automatically considered essential employees and may be subject to recall. These events may include, but are not limited to, natural, man-made, or public health emergencies. Employees may be expected to perform emergency and/or recovery operations outside of their normal assigned responsibilities and routine working hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in public or customer service English proficiency, in both written and verbal communication Basic computer skills (Excel, Work, Outlook) required Prior code enforcement, military or law enforcement experience is preferred Bilingual English/Spanish preferred Must be able to work rotating shifts including early mornings, weekend, and holiday shifts Licenses /
Certification:
Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License or the ability to get a license within 30 days Able to secure a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
Physical Requirement:
Ability to walk or stand outdoors for extended period of time, often in adverse weather conditions
Environmental Requirements:
Outside for 8-10 hours a day The duties of this position are primarily performed outdoors Due to the nature and location of the work environment, Officers will be exposed to sun, heat, humidity, vehicle exhaust, and inclement weather Duties require working around moving vehicles.
