Chief of Police-Ridgeland Campus 3.5 3.5 out of 5 stars 412 W Ridgeland Ave, Ridgeland, MS 39157 Position Information Posting Number 2010637 Position Title Chief of Police-Ridgeland Campus General Statement of Function Responsible for the overall safety and security of the Campus Community. Incumbent on this position is to establish, monitor and enforce appropriate security and emergency procedures; supervise, train and evaluate the performance of police and security officers. Job Description 1. Maintain department for the protection of people and property. 2. Direct and supervise the operations of the Campus Police Department and other security personnel. 3. Ensure duties are performed in conformance with established procedures. 4. Monitors and evaluates the performance of officers and campus security personnel through observation, conferences and by reviewing reports and logs. 5. Plans, oversees and participates in appropriate on-the-job training of subordinates and arranges for ongoing professional training and development programs as required to meet all local, state and federal requirements. 6. Develop parking programs and traffic regulations. 7. Organize/develop safety programs and strategic planning. 8. Serve as a member and/or leader of the Emergency Response team. 9. Serve as primary investigator of on campus incidents reported to the Campus Police 10. The Chief shall carry a departmental approved weapon and maintain a satisfactory proficiency level as required by local, state and federal regulations. 11. Become and remain aware of problem dwellings and criminal activity in the surrounding community. 12. Communicate with Student Affairs as well as local police, fire and traffic departments regarding matters of concern to the college community. 13. Educate campus community of building safety and evacuation plan in the event a disaster occurs. 14. Remain current in all local, state and federal regulations impacting the institution regarding law enforcement and emergency management personnel. 15. Ensure that appropriate documentation is prepared and filed for training, emergency preparedness, and public safety items related to the respective campus. 16. Monitors and keeps Vice President aware of impending weather circumstances that could impact class schedules/events. 17. Coordinates with other Campus Chiefs district wide training to ensure compliance requirements are adhered to (including Institutional Effectiveness documentation for the department). 18. Coordinates with other Campus Chiefs to ensure that federal and state reporting requirements for the district are met (i.e. Clery Act). 19. Updates the Annual Security & Fire Safety Report. 20 .Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Have successfully completed a full-time law enforcement officer academy approved by the Mississippi Board of Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training (BLEOST). Associate’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university And Two (2) – Three (3) years of relevant experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Or High School Diploma or equivalent And Three (3) – Five (5) years of relevant experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Licenses, Certificates or Registrations Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures. Knowledge of student support programs and services. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Strong interpersonal and community relations skills, the ability to communicate effectively in a written and oral context and to work effectively within a diverse community.
