out of 5 stars York County, SC Job Responsibilities York Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education System, is a public, two-year institution of higher education that offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Through maximizing student success, the College seeks to contribute to the economic growth and development of York, Lancaster, and Chester counties and of the State. The Law Enforcement Officer I performs the following functions from Monday – Friday (2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.): Patrols on foot and in campus police vehicles to prevent crime and detect violations of the laws of SC and York Technical College regulations. Responds to complaints, reports of violations and requests for assistance. Issues warnings and citations to violators. Apprehends and arrests violators. Performs general police work such as maintaining order during emergencies, participating in bomb threats, fire evacuations, shelter in place, lockdowns, manhunts, and providing executive protection. Keeps records and makes reports regarding activities. Provides building and event security. Checks doors, walks buildings and reports issues to the supervisor, campus safety or facilities. Directs traffic and controls crowds. Investigates disturbances and accidents. Completes and submits reports of findings to supervisors. Testifies in court and other legal proceedings. Attends training provided by the College, SCCJA and other law enforcement/safety conferences. Completes firearm and defensive driving training annually. Monitors parking areas, crosswalks, exterior lighting, regulatory signage, and evening activities. Reports irregularities and maintenance needs to supervisor and facilities Minimum and Additional Requirements A high school diploma. Certification by the Law Enforcement Training Council and Criminal Justice Academy in accordance with 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976 or be able to transfer a law enforcement certification from another state following

established guidelines. A valid driver’s license. Must be at least 21 years of age. At least two years of related law enforcement experience. Must be able to obtain SC Group I Constable Certification. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of the laws of South Carolina. Knowledge of modern law enforcement techniques and procedures. Knowledge of how to collect and preserve evidence. Knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of other law enforcement agencies. Skill in the operation of law enforcement vehicles, weapons, and communications equipment. Ability to correctly evaluate situations and make good decisions. Ability to deal firmly, yet tactfully, with the students, faculty/staff, and general public. Ability to effectively interview witnesses and suspects. Ability to read and comprehend written materials. Ability to write clearly and effectively.
