This position is responsible for supervising and investigating criminal offenders through the provision of probation, parole and pardon assigned to the district office.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR
A bachelor’s degree.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver’s license.
This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.
Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:

Supervise felons and misdemeanants through counseling and referrals to community resources on social adjustment problems.
Enforces conditions of supervision and performs all aspects of the violation process under close supervision.
Conducts criminal justice social background investigations of offenders and makes recommendations for the various decision makers in the criminal justice system (e. g., courts, parole board, pardon board, the Office of the Governor, etc.).
Conducts arrests, transports violators, prepares reports to courts and parole board, and attends and participates in probable cause and revocation hearings.
Investigates and determines amounts of victims? restitution, sets payment schedules, and collects and disburses victims? restitution, supervision fees, fines, court costs, and other criminal justice monies.
Places offenders in appropriate drug treatment, vocational rehabilitation, or mental health programs; assists them in obtaining emergency financial aid and support and provides crisis intervention services.
Conduct all activities in compliance with the American Correctional Association (ACA) standards which set specific time constraints, requirements, and regimen for all major activities.
Administer drug tests by obtaining urine samples and evaluating results.
Assist in conducting jail operation audits on facilities housing DPSC inmates.
Make decisions regarding the application of the Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) defensive tactics system to include impact weapons.
Supervises and directs discretionary community service work performed by parolees.
Perform contract compliance audits for Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRC).
Conduct disciplinary hearings for adult inmates in CRCs.

Special Entrance Rates:
The Probation and Parole Officer 1-Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,701.60 Bi-weekly.
The Probation and Parole Officer 2-Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,820.80 Bi-weekly.
The Probation and Parole Officer 3-Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $2,012.00 Bi-weekly.
DETAIL•The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
TEMPORARY JOB APPOINTMENT
•This position may be filled by temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
PROBATIONAL APPOINTMENT
•Current permanent status classified State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment, if selected.
