Description of Work The Department of Adult Correction, Division of Community Supervision has an exciting opportunity for a current or former Probation/Parole Officer (PPO) with two years of PPO experience, as we are currently recruiting for a Probation/Parole Field Training Officer position in Judicial District 25. The position will provide training and guidance to new Probation and Parole Officers within the district, and additional training to veteran staff as needed or requested. Training will consist of techniques for case management, counseling of offenders with a wide variety of sanctions (such as split-sentence, electronic house arrest, substance abuse treatment), conducting in-depth risk/needs assessments, developing case plans, identifying when to use incentives and consequences and judiciary practices and procedures, and other DAC/DCS training initiatives. Probation/Parole Field Training Officers (FTO) based in a District Office will report to the Judicial District Manager. This professional work is performed as an Officer of the Court where the selected applicant will function as a lead Probation and Parole Officer. The successful candidate shall have extensive knowledge of structured sentencing and how it applies to Community Supervision as well as knowledge of local and regional community resources to address the placement of monitored offenders. The candidate will also have a working knowledge of the available tools and sanctions to target offender needs. The responsibilities will include the following: Maintain proficiency with a variety of software applications to include OPUS, CSAS, ICOTS, FMS, AOC and MS Office applications in order to train and perform data entry and research regarding offenders. Train officers how to serve on the Electronic House Arrest Response Team (EHART) and serve on call when situations warrant.
Carry a caseload when called to do so.
Exercise good judgment and independence in training staff.
Work flexible hours to include days, nights and weekends, emergency response, and on-call availability and may require some overtime.
Train officers on effective offender contacts at the offender’s home and/or workplace including warrantless searches.
Planning daily work operations for new hires and themselves, setting priorities, scheduling, and establishing deadlines. Field Training Officers must reside within 30 miles of the county of assignment within 90 days of their start date. If selected to interview, you will be expected to make a job-related training presentation to the interview panel. Your presentation should be no longer than five (5) minutes.
