Description of Work The Extradition PPO position is assigned to DAC Special Operations and Intelligence Unit and is a home-as-duty position. The primary duty of this position will be to extradite offenders that have been requested by NCDAC, counties, and Interstate agreement detainers. This position will supervise a caseload of offenders who have been deemed absconders and have been placed on probation by the courts or who are under a period of parole or post release supervision. Employee will carry a caseload which will contain all risk offenders. The Extradition PPO will operate with discretion, competence, and judgement in matters of statutory interpretation, policies, and procedures. The PPO will be an expert in all aspects of fugitive retrieval, beginning with notification of capture and ending with after-action reporting to assist and enhance future fugitive extradition operations. This position will report directly to the Special Operations Investigative Supervisor in Extradition. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Review and coordinate extradition trips as assignments are received
Review all instructions and documents for clarity concerning procedures, relative timelines, travel, and custody arrangements
Plan routes and secure accommodations taking into consideration all matters of public safety to ensure the safe extradition of the fugitive
Communicate directly with holding facilities throughout the United States to coordinate the successful retrieval of assigned fugitives
Completing thorough searches of the offenders to ensure the safety of the offender, the public and the transporting staff

This position requires extensive overnight travel
This position must be able to work independently in precarious situations
This position must be able to complete Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards including firearms, self-defense and other required training

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following: Basic knowledge of criminal behavior, family and group dynamics, intervention, and prevention techniques
Working knowledge in the area of Community Corrections, Probation, Parole, and Post-Release including, but not limited to, structured sentencing, criminal law, and statutory guidelines
Working knowledge and understanding of court procedures, operational procedures or law enforcement agencies and officials, characteristics of various socio-economic populations and community resources

Management Preferences:

Currently serving as a PPO and successfully completed Extradition training Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER year of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. Necessary Special Requirements:

 Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission. Must complete the Criminal Justice Standards Training requirements and all other requirements for General Certification within one year or as required by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
