Description of Work The Administrative Specialist II – Release Management Specialist positions are in the Combined Record Section of the Department of Adult Correction, Raleigh, Wake County. The most critical duty for this position is to oversee that the monthly and daily Offender Release Date approvals are processed appropriately and efficiently. Before the approvals can be entered into the OPUS system, a thorough review is conducted for any detainers, pending charges, etc. The position is responsible daily for the release approval of any priority releases received from the Auditing section of Combined Records and coordinate the offenders’ approval or disapproval for release with the Auditing Section. This position is responsible for contacting Prison units by phone or email to request missing Judgment and Commitments and fingerprints are forwarded to Combined Records for accurate sentence audit and release date purposes. Thus, position involves the frequent electronic and/or telephonic communication with the Prison Units, Prison Administration/employees, Parole Commission staff members, Community Supervision Office, family members of the offender, and the general public. This position will perform the quality assurance checks of the monthly and daily alerts of all release approvals and/or disapprovals when applicable. Proven knowledge and application techniques pertaining to personal computers and the Offender Population Unified System (OPUS), NCVIP, Omni Docs and Fiori.
Proven ability to communicate clearly and effective in oral and written form and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Management Preference Ability to assist the supervisor in training, overseeing work, and special projects.
Ability to adapt to frequent shifts in job priorities, especially when emergencies arise. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving the lives and property of its citizens through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry. The Combined Records section is responsible for the development and maintenance of offender records and the calculation of sentences for all offenders who are incarcerated in the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction facilities. The staff at Combined Records obtain information from a variety of sources, including the courts, the Post- Release Supervision/Parole Commission, the North Carolina Department of Justice, the Attorney General’s Office, and federal, state, and county law enforcement agencies. The section also provides auxiliary services to the Post-Release Supervision/Parole Commission, Community Supervision, and the Extradition Office.
