SUMMARY:

Perform professional work related to the screening and filing of temporary Pro Se Protection from Abuse (PFA) Petitions and the scheduling and processing of Final PFA and Indirect Criminal Contempt hearing case dispositions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coordinating the daily Pro Se Protection from Abuse (PFA) intake procedures and the scheduling of legal advocates, volunteers and interns working in the PFA Department; reviewing temporary PFA Petitions for clients; maintaining calendar docket control for the scheduling of Final PFAs and Indirect Criminal Contempt hearings; conciliating contested cases with both Pro Se litigants and attorneys; and drafting appropriate court orders.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (degree in social work or related field of study preferred). Experience in dispute resolution and a knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of Domestic Violence and child abuse/neglect. Solid computer skills and experience in a Windows environment with the ability to quickly learn various computer systems. Knowledge of PFA, custody, divorce, support, child dependency and criminal laws and procedures preferred. Excellent communication and writing skills. Must be able to demonstrate and maintain sensitivity, empathy, and respect to a diverse blend of clients and staff. Ability to be detail oriented and timely with documentation and the entering of information into computer systems. Excellent organizational skills. Must have the ability to work under pressure; deal with stress associated with confidential Court environment and time restrictions. Must be able to sit, reach, bend, stoop, and stand, perform repetitive motions with wrists, hand and fingers, daily handwriting over long periods and performing computer input duties, open/close files, physically/vision sufficient to perform job duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate the daily Pro Se Protection from Abuse (PFA) intake procedures. Assess clients for risks while collecting information through interviews and observation. Maintain calendar docket control and the scheduling of Final PFA and Indirect Criminal Contempt hearings. Coordinate the scheduling of legal advocates, volunteers and interns working in the PFA Unit. Coordinate the negotiation of consent agreements and orders with both Pro Se litigants and attorneys; issue, process, register and file all case dispositions and orders with the PA State police PFA Database and the Office of Court Records. Conduct conciliations with litigants and attorneys for contested cases and refer cases for Judicial conciliations and hearings, as needed. Draft necessary court orders including Final PFA orders, temporary custody and support orders, continuances, withdrawals, and dismissal orders. Attend training when appropriate and scheduled. Maintain up-to-date knowledge on Domestic Violence issues and laws. Refer clients to the appropriate legal advocates. Collaborate with other staff members, advocates, and appropriate parties to best assist clients.
