About the

Role:

Giant Resource Recovery is seeking an onsite Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager (EH&S Manager) for its Attalla Alabama location. This role reports to the Environmental, Health, and Safety Director. This position will aid the Operational Managers of GRR in their efforts to meet all state and federal environmental and occupational safety and health regulations. The EH&S Manager will offer courses of action which minimize the impact of these regulations on company operations while achieving compliance, and establish an effective health and safety management program that supports and encourages a safe working environment and workplace

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for monitoring, auditing and inspecting all aspects of the GRR facility to ensure compliance with all Federal/State environmental and safety regulations and environmental permits. This responsibility includes conducting periodic (i.e., daily) walk through inspections and auditing and correcting/following up on routine inspection records conducted by other site personnel.
Serves as the local safety expert and exhibits knowledge of, and ensures compliance, with all applicable safety regulations. Able to identify and correct safety hazards. Able to identify and correct safety hazards, participate in regular safety training, safety topic meetings, and task training.
Responsible for current knowledge of the status of all environmental permits (e.g., RCRA, CAA, and CWA) issued to GRR. Responsible for current knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations and programs applicable to GRR, including

OSHA PSM

Program and Site Safety Plans.
Responsible for accurate technical information and calculations related to projects and reports to which he/she is assigned. Also, responsible for reviewing all Environmental Permits and Environmental Regulations issued to the Plant and to create and maintain an accurate and up-to-date Environmental Calendar to ensure that a system is in place so that all Environmental Requirements are always met
Responsible for reviewing all H&S Plans and keeping them current / up to date. Revise and improve plans that are deficient or outdated, develop and implement plans that do not currently exist.
Responsible as a liaison with the Federal, State, and Local regulatory agency for the facility, and maintaining good relations with such agency personnel.
Responsible for reporting to their Manager Environmental, Health and Safety Affair any deviations, problems, or errors of which he/she is made aware of.
Interface with customers is necessary to maintain good customer relations and ensure customers approved waste profiles comply with GRR permits.
Ability to work with employees and achieve cultural change in the face of potential resistance.
Respond to Notices of Violations, OSHA complaints, and/or other State, EPA, or OSHA inquiries regarding Environmental and Safety Compliance.
Responsible for maintenance, preparation, and submission of required cyclic environmental and H&S reports (e.g. Discharge Monitoring Reports, OSHA 300 log, Benzene NESHAP, Subpart CC Vapor Pressure Update, Subpart BB Monthly Reports and quarterly air permit VOC reports, internal monthly safety reporting, etc.)
Establish a safety culture by promoting job safety in his/her job throughout the company. Promote environmental stewardship and safety in his/her leadership role within the company.
Responsible for working with the laboratory to address environmental, health and safety questions and/or concerns.
Responsible for working with the facility operations to ensure that training is scheduled and conducted as required by regulations, e.g. initial 24-hour OSHS and initial RCRA 6 months training after hiring.
Responsible for carrying out company policies and promoting the company image within the community.
Creates and maintains good employer-employee relations in all areas of the company.
Responsible for meeting budgeted costs at all times when workload involves a budget and to keep looking for new, more efficient methods of completing projects at a reduced cost.
Responsible for informing the Plant Manager of problems and other information of which he/she should be aware.
Responsible for reviewing ADEM Register and keeping the company abreast of regulatory changes which may affect the GRR facility.
Creates and maintains an orderly and neat work area.
Responsible for conducting and documenting certain routine assigned inspections (e.g., Stormwater, etc.) Responsible for leading the Safety Committee meetings and carrying out its agenda.
Responsible for ensuring that an organized filing system is maintained for all documentation that is required to be maintained on-site for applicable OSHA and environmental regulations.
Responsible for managing direct reports.
Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned from time to time by the Director of Environmental Affairs.

Requirements:

Four-year degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, engineering or related field.
Five years of progressive experience in the environmental, health, and safety field, supervisory experience a benefit.
Effective communication skills; demonstrated organizational and delegation abilities; must be able to successfully interact in a team environment as well as independently
Experience in the waste industry, Environmental compliance experience

Work Environment:

Ability to physically inspect plant properties where climbing steps, ladders, and physical exertion is required. Respirator use could be required.
Paid time off.
